Caring for our environment
At Knight Developments we pride ourselves on taking a responsible attitude to house building.
The majority of new developments are predominantly built on ‘brown field’ land, which is land that has had building on it previously, so in effect recycling and sustainability start very early on.
When planning a new development we consider the shape and natural features of the surrounding landscape and its context within those surroundings and take care that it is planned in such a way as to make it as an attractive and harmonious place in which to live. Arboricultural and ecological surveys are undertaken and we strive to ensure minimum impact on the natural environment of plants, trees and species.
We recycle our building waste efficiently as a matter of course, during the build process, by effective skip and waste management, recycling pallets and water usage is monitored.
Energy awareness and efficiency is built in to our new homes by sourcing local products where possible, providing high levels of insulation, double glazing, low energy lighting where appropriate and water saving devices.
Several of our schemes are built to the Government’s Code for Sustainable Homes
Level 3 standard, which ensures energy efficiency throughout the build process and through use of sustainable materials and low energy devices, such as photovoltaic and solar roof panels, improved water efficiency measures such as flow limiters on taps, garden water butts and energy efficient fitted kitchen appliances. Purchasers are also provided with a booklet encouraging them to keep up the good work once they have moved in and help protect the environment for future generations in a number of additional ways including further water saving tips, shopping locally, turning off electrical items when not in use and the encouragement of cycling and walking instead of using cars for short journeys.
It is in everyone’s interest to reduce our carbon footprint and encourage energy awareness, now and into the future.
