Of Romans and Highwaymen
Loughton is located in the Epping Forest district, a part of England renowned for its natural beauty and historical interests. It was in this area that Boudicea was defeated by the Romans after the destruction of Colchester and the remains of Roman Villas have been excavated nearby.

The growth of the surrounding towns in Tudor times, due mainly to their location on one of the main roads from London into East Anglia, attracted highwaymen, the most infamous of all being Dick Turpin. Being surrounded by a number of towns, Epping, Chigwell, Buckhurst Hill, Waltham Abbey and Ongar, means that Loughton is well positioned to reap the benefits of their numerous shopping and leisure facilities. A busy market is held in Epping every Monday.

Loughton is well placed for the M11 and M25 and nearby Epping station is on the London Underground central line.

The Loughton area boasts a wide range of leisure facilities that will soon include a new multi-million pound swimming pool and leisure complex which is scheduled to open later this year. In addition a David Lloyd Health Club can be found in nearby Chigwell and the Epping Forest Golf and Country Club offers numerous possibilities for those in pursuit of sport and relaxation.
